Introducing our new Community Arts Development Officer!
In February 2009 the Arts Forum appointed our first full time member of staff - Catherine Scott.
We have so many plans for the coming year, and Catherine will be helping us achieve our goals and get the new Community Arts Centre up and running.
More details of our projects and initiatives soon!
Business Opportunities Available Now
Our Newbiggin Community Arts Centre is now open for business. If you have a need for a room or our facilities, whether it's to relocate your business to our Centre, or rent a space for a one off or regular slot, then contact Catherine Scott at catherine@newbigginartsforum.org - we look forward to hearing from you!
We had a great time at our new Arts Cenre, Woodhorn Villa, on Sunday 7th December. Thank you to all of those who had a stall or gave a demonstration - we had over 200 visitors, and it was a truly wonderful event - the first of many we hope!

The September Arts Forum meeting was a particularly ineresting one, as we were joined by master glass artist Craig Colquhoun who gave a fascinating demonstration of the art. Whilst talking to us about his life and inspirations, he made a beautiful glass sculpture - a Christmas tree ornament with a dolphin at the bottom, complete with a delicate glass stand.
Visit the link above to see Craig's web site, or the link below to se Emmy nominated feature about his work.
Sean Henry visited Newbiggin by the Sea on 17th August to mark the first anniversary of the installation of Couple, and launch the new publication which charts the development of the sculptue from conception to completion.
Many people turned out to meet Sean, and have their books signed. There was also a dance performance on the beach which was very enjoyable.
Copies of the book, which is a beautiful publication, are available direct from the Arts Forum at £10 per copy, or from the Pride of Northumbria shop in Newbiggin. Call 01670 813273 for ordering or click on the link above to buy it with PayPal.
A Building for the Arts Forum - August / September 2008
We are very excited to announce that Wansbeck District Council have agreed to allow the Newbiggin Arts Forum to use the People's House and redevelop it as the Newbiggin Community Arts Centre. We are in the process of attracting funding to employ a Project Manager whose responsibility will be to help the Ats Forum reach the next level, develop a Business Plan, apply for more funding and generally run the Forum with the close consultation of the Committee.
The Centre will have space in it for offices, meeting rooms, training and workshop areas, a kitchen and coffee shop, gift shop, gallery, tourist information cenre and more - so it will be an extremely exciting opportunity for us over the coming months to get this project off the ground.
Below is an Artists Impression of the building as it would look with a couple of signs slapped on the front...
We welcome suggestions for a better name for the building.
