The Ultimatum
I’ve thought a lot
About the reasons to
And the reasons not to
To do, could risk everything
Not to do could mean nothing
Which is the lesser of a man?
Today is about a statement
Not about an indictment
Surely it is best to say
Than not to say
No matter what to lose
No matter what to gain
Best chance to ask what you want
Not wondering what they want
If only one thing
Courage defines
Confidence refines
So my friend as many have said
To be or not to be
I offer you this ultimatum
To do or not to do
For my family
For my family I shall say
So grave can be our troubles
How swift they can quickly catch us
Enough to burst our bubbles
For my family I shall say
A lesser family would perish
How quick we could soon be gone
But it is the little things we cherish
For my family I shall say
So powerful can be the fear
But looking around I clearly see
We're all in one piece, still here
For my family I shall say
When the challenge grows to be hard
And feel we can take it no longer
We shall increase our guard
For my family I shall say
When defined by the greater test
My family shall stand proud at the top
Always caring and trying our best
Emily
Upon hearing the news it didn't seem real
Curious I was about how I would feel
And when you arrived it was clear to see
You had sparked a lot of happiness in me
And all rifts of doubt had gone
A feeling I had not felt for so long
From this blessing it was quite true
How little there was that I knew
Because there's a bond stronger than any other
It's the one between child and mother
All that's needed is one soft touch
To show that your parents love so much
So gentle you look when you open your eyes
As beautiful as the colours of a sun rise
I'll watch over you for eternity and a day
Sending all the bad and evil things away
Holding my thumb with your hand is enough to inspire
And take all the great things in life that much higher
From here on out we're taking this journey together
My darling Emily you'll be in my heart forever.
