Autumn Eyes
Nights draw in & morning’s dark arrival is greeted with a hoary breath
Change is all around as nature busys itself ready for the harshest season.
I’m changing too, slowing me down storing memories preparing for winter’s shutdown in the twilight of my life.
The changes bring a reflective frame of mind the signs of ageing & decay visible staring back from the mirror
Each year the seasons pass quicker in a relentless cycle
Though the view seems the same as it ever was
Young in mind & spirit the picture only changing on the outside
The colours & fading light create a landscape like my memories.
Change is both natural & at the same time at odds with how I look outward from inside my skin.
Will the seasons past suddenly overcome my senses like a strong wind strips bare the frail leaves creating traces of my life scattered here & there
