Memories
The china dinner set with the tiny blue flowers
All sitting around the table laughing and talking about our day
The 2 tier cake stand and the glass bowl with ice cream and wafers in it
The jug of home made lemon and barley water
Me asking mum “what’s a snakey” and mum laughing because I meant snake
The black wallpaper with the huge pink roses on it, but were they huge or was I just small?
Our wonderful nights of family fun
Laughing, singing and dancing to our favourite records
They all hold warm memories of my childhood.
The awful day we were told that Mum had died
The deep pain inside that will never leave
You were so beautiful Mum
How I miss your smile and your gentle ways
You used to stroke my hair for hours
How safe you made me feel
We all go on as if we’re better now but we’re all pretending, avoiding your name, It is Catherine
Sometimes it’s easier just to go away
But no matter where you run
There’ll always be something to trigger a memory of you
The smell of your perfume, an old holiday photo that you’re not even in, but you took, a song
I miss you so much Mum
