Introduction
The Newbiggin by the Sea Arts Forum was set up in January 2006 with the intention of being a community based group of people who would like to be more involved in creative and artistic activities. Whether that's practically being involved in the production of original artworks or arts related activities such as performance or writing, or just to gain a better appreciation of and more participative experience in artistic things, we want the Forum to be a place where everyone is welcome and included.
It's not about skill or talent - it's about being involved and having fun. It's about encouraging everyone to be valued and appreciated whatever their background or ability. It's about enjoying being creative, and understanding a little bit more about the process of creativity. It's about making friends, and helping each other along the way towards being more involved with artistic activities - from making a sculptute to taking a photograph to visiting a gallery or attending a concert.
Mission Statement
Newbiggin by the Sea Arts Forum aims to be a fully inclusive group which encourages and facilitates the furtherment and enjoyment of Arts and Crafts within the community.
Aims of Newbiggin Arts Forum:
- To promote the arts
- To promote & facilitate active participation in the arts
- To provide a forum for artists to interact
- To provide a forum for amateur artists to work together & develop their skills
- To promote social interaction relating to The Arts and subjects connected with The Arts, and feel part of a group of like-minded people who want to engage in artistic and creative activities.
- To promote a positive and creative view of Newbiggin by the Sea
- provide a forum for people to try arts activities
- provide a forum to let the community have a say in the arts
- provide a forum for arts educators to work with us
- provide a forum for arts administrators work with us
- To encourage an attitude of the value of the artistic process, as well as the product we call Art
- provide a forum for local / regional / national / international government to interact with the artists & community of Newbiggin
- provide a forum for local / regional / national / international companies to interact with the artists & community of Newbiggin
- to promote The Arts as something relevant to Newbiggin by the Sea
- provide a forum to develop mutually beneficial commercial relationships for artists & other members of the group
- To provide a forum where enjoyment of creativity and self expression, can be experienced & encourage some of the diverse ways this can happen
- provide a forum for careers advice in the arts
- provide a forum for other groups / venues in the arts to publicise their activities to the members of the group & community of Newbiggin
- To give a positive message to those within the community and beyond about what it means to live in Newbiggin by the Sea
- help to create an artists community in Newbiggin
- be ambassadors for the arts in Newbiggin
- To provide an inclusive place where people can develop their social skills, technical skills and understanding of The Arts.
