Who we are and what we do...

The Newbiggin Arts Forum is a community arts group which brings together local people with an interest in the arts. We range from fully-fledged artists, to enthusiastic novices. Each month we meet to have fun, enjoy the arts and take part in arts workshops.

We work in a wide variety of art media, and have had workshops which include ceramics, pop art, needlework, block printing, dance, singing, creative writing amongst others.

If you have an interest in any aspect of the arts, please come along and join us. We meet at 7.00 pm the first Monday of each month in Newbiggin Sports and Community Centre.

History

The Newbiggin Arts Forum was founded by Eddie Galvin after he relocated to Newbiggin from Oxfordshire. Eddie saw the potential in Newbiggin for a group of like-minded creative individuals of all kinds to get together regularly and explore the arts through talking, meeting, sharing and participating.

The Newbiggin by the Sea Arts Forum was set up in January 2006 with the intention of being a community based group of people who would like to be more involved in creative and artistic activities. Whether that's practically being involved in the production of original artworks or arts related activities such as performance or writing, or just to gain a better appreciation of and more participative experience in artistic things, we want the Forum to be a place where everyone is welcome and included.

It's not about skill or talent - it's about being involved and having fun. It's about encouraging everyone to be valued and appreciated whatever their background or ability. It's about enjoying being creative, and understanding a little bit more about the process of creativity. It's about making friends, and helping each other along the way towards being more involved with artistic activities - from making a sculptute to taking a photograph to visiting a gallery or attending a concert.

In 2008 The Newbiggin Arts Forum became a Limited Company with Charitable status. We are currently working on securing an Arts Centre for the village and employing a Project manager to work with and in the community on our projects and events.
